Dover Mayor Proclaims May 17, 2006 as "Biodiesel Awareness Day"

City uses clean-burning fuel fleetwide

(Dover) - Stephen R. Speed, Mayor of the City of Dover, proclaimed Wednesday, May 17, 2006 as “Biodiesel Awareness Day” as the City celebrated switching its fleet to biodiesel fuel and using over 60,000 gallons of this fuel to date. This celebration coincided with Air Quality Awareness Week, May 15-19, 2006.

The ceremony took place May 17, 2006 at the City of Dover Warehouse. Del. Gov. Ruth Ann Minner applauded the City’s efforts to improve air quality, reinforcing the governor’s Livable Delaware Initiative. Jeffrey Allen, President of the Delaware Soybean Board, thanked the city for supporting farmers by using biodiesel blends, and a demonstration on the difference between petroleum diesel and biodiesel was provided by Louis C. DiNetta of Compact Membrane Systems.

The City of Dover currently has 30 diesel trucks in its fleet which are now powered with biodiesel fuel.
