Felton Grower Wins Biodiesel Fuel

Ron Blessing will use soy-based biodiesel during spring planting

(DOVER) -Ronald Blessing, a soybean grower who farms near Felton, won free soy biodiesel fuel B100 at the Soybean Education Day on January 26 at the Delaware State fairgrounds in Harrington. Donated by the Tri-Gas & Oil of Federalsburg, the 250 gallons of the fuel will be delivered to the Blessing farm this spring in a plastic, reusable, tote.

According to Seth Powell of Tri-Gas & Oil, plastic totes are still available for Delaware and Maryland soybean growers interested in trying biodiesel in their farm equipment. “I encourage soybean producers to contact me at Tri-Gas & Oil to reserve a tote deliver this spring,” said Mr. Powell. “Growers who order any blend of the fuel, from B2 to B100, will qualify to borrow a free tote,” he said.

According to Jeffrey Allen, President of the Delaware Soybean Board, the totes were made possible for the region by a grant awarded by the United Soybean Board. “The totes are a way to encourage our producers to try soy biodiesel fuel without having to use an existing storage tank on their farm,” said Mr. Allen.

“In addition, Delaware growers can also get a rebate of 50% of the incremental difference of the fuel, through the rebate program available from the Delaware Soybean Board,” he said.

“This spring will be the perfect time to try biodiesel, and using the fuel that supports our industry is the right thing to do,” continued Mr. Allen. “Many Delaware growers have used the fuel and been very pleased. We hope more people in our industry will try the fuel and see how easy it is to store and use,” he said.
